Heavy Rainfall Affecting Sichuan Province

Heavy rains have affected more than hundred thousands of residents in Southwest China's Sichuan province in August. Continuous rainfall has caused over 30 rivers in the province to exceed warning levels.

Farmland, transportation, water conservancy and other infrastructure in various parts of the province have been damaged to varying degrees, including the capital city of Chengdu, and the cities of Deyang and Mianyang. No deaths or missing persons have been reported so far, the province's flood control and drought relief headquarters said.

The provincial meteorological observatory issued a yellow alert for rainstorms at 4 pm Saturday, before a Level III emergency response for flood control was issued. China has a four-tier flood control emergency response system, with level I representing the most severe.

2021 Chengdu Summer Universiade: 1 Year to Go! 

The 31^stSummer World University Games (Summer Universiade) will be held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province from the 18th to 29th August 2021.

The summer Universiade is an international multi-sports event, organised for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation.

The  Summer Universiade is expected to draw over 10,000 student-athletes and officials from over 150 countries competing over 12 days. The event comprises 269 medal events across 18 sportsdisciplines and includes the three optional sports chosen by the Chengdu organising committee; rowing, shooting sport and Wushu.

Preparations for the multi-sport event in Chengdu are ongoing smoothly and the tournament remains on schedule despite the global COVID-19 pandemic, according to the senior officials from the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

Direct Flight Chengdu - Xishuangbanna

AirChinaplans to open a direct flightfrom Chengduto Xishuangbannaon August 1, 2020. It departs from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport at 9:25 am on every Monday and arrives in Xishuangbanna Jinghong Airport at 11:35am. From Tuesday to Sunday, it takes off from Chengdu at 9:50 am and arrives in Xishuangbanna at 12:00 pm. The duration of one-way flight is 2h 10min.
