US Consulate in Chengdu Officially Closed.

On the morning of 24th July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China informed the US Embassy in China of its decision to withdraw its consent for the establishment and operation of the US Consulate General in Chengdu. The Ministry also made specific requirements on the ceasing of all operations and events by the Consulate General. The ordered closure by Beijing comes in retaliation to the US’s forced closure of the China Consulate in Houston over espionage claims.

At 10 AM on July 27^th, both the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the US State Department confirm that the US Consulate in Chengdu is officially closed. The US flag was lowered at the Chengdu compound at dawn this morning after staffers were seen leaving the consulate. Shortly after 10 AM BJT, Chinese authorities were seen entering through the front door of the compound and have taken over the premises.

2020 Chengdu Motor Show.

The 23rd Chengdu Motor Show CDMS is being held from July 24th to August 2nd at Western China International Expo City. With 22 years of development, the show has grown into one of the top four events of its kind in this country. The show also gains large investment and support from the leading car manufacturers and media. CDMS promotes the presence of more than 1,500 vehicles from over 120 renowned auto brands. 

Not to mention, a total of 16 models made global debuts and 26 had their China premieres on the first day of the motor show. The exhibition venue covers 200,000 square meters. Organizers say this year’s show aims to stimulate auto consumption and boost confidence in the auto market. New-energy vehicles, luxury cars and a test-drive experience zone are highlights of the show. It will also have an online exhibition, along with live-streaming on TikTok.

Sichuan Sunac Water and Snow World Opening.

The Chengdu Sunac Cultural Tourism City Water and Snow World is a massive facility located in Dujiangyan. The project is a gigantic indoor water park and artificial ski slopes, with a shopping mall attached.

The facility covers 367,600 square meters and is reported to be the largest reinforced concrete structure to hold an indoor ski resort in China. The Water Park has all the slides and water fun to keep you busy for a day. Snow World comprises of seven floors, two of which are underground. The 75,000 sq/m ski dome will contain 3 slopes and a capacity of 2,000 skiers per day.
